Seeing the Vision: Why Interior Design & CGI Are Game-Changers in Renovation Projects

Why CGI visualisation is essential when renovating and refreshing character properties

Renovating or refreshing a period property is rarely straightforward. When working with a Grade II listed home, every decision carries weight — from materials and finishes to layout and lighting. At 2 Brown Cow Cottage in Hawkshead, our role was not only to design a sensitive interior scheme, but to help our clients see it clearly before a single change was made.

This is where interior design and CGI visualisation become invaluable.

Why CGI Matters in Heritage Properties

For many clients, especially those mid-renovation or considering a refresh, plans and samples alone are not enough. CGI imagery bridges the gap between concept and reality, allowing clients to visualise how a space will feel while respecting the building’s history.

In a listed property, confidence is key. CGI allows us to test colour palettes, furniture placement, lighting and finishes in a way that feels tangible — without risk. It ensures every design decision is intentional, justified and sympathetic to the original character of the home.

From Existing Space to Considered Vision

At Brown Cow Cottage, the existing living space was rich with character — exposed beams, deep window reveals and original stonework — but lacked cohesion and warmth. Through CGI, we carefully reimagined the room, balancing its historic features with a softer, more liveable scheme.

These visuals are not simply “pretty pictures”. Each image represents hours of design thinking: understanding proportions, natural light, textures, heritage constraints and how the space will actually be used day to day.

Supporting Clients Through the Decision Process

One of the greatest benefits of CGI is reassurance. Clients can move forward knowing exactly how their home will look and feel. This is especially important in listed buildings, where changes must be considered carefully and often approved.

By visualising the end result early, our clients gain clarity, avoid costly mistakes, and feel confident that their home’s character is being protected — not compromised.

Design That Respects the Past, While Supporting Modern Living

Interior design for heritage homes is about balance. CGI allows us to honour the past while thoughtfully introducing comfort, functionality and modern living.

This Hawkshead project is a perfect example of how design expertise and visualisation work hand in hand — supporting our clients at every stage, from uncertainty to confidence, and from concept to reality.

Here’s a sneak peek at a handful of the 45+ CGI visuals we created to bring this project to life for our client.

Seeing the before and after side by side makes the value of interior design and CGI instantly clear. What once felt uncertain becomes tangible; what felt overwhelming becomes considered and achievable. For our clients at 2 Brown Cow Cottages, the CGI visuals didn’t just illustrate a design — they provided confidence, clarity and reassurance at a critical stage of their project.

They allowed decisions to be made thoughtfully, with the knowledge that the home’s character would be respected and enhanced. This is why we believe interior design and CGI are not an optional extra, but an essential part of the journey — especially when working with character and listed properties. They help bridge the gap between imagination and reality, ensuring that when a space is finally brought to life, it feels exactly as it should.
